Weekend Round-up 03.13.16

This weekend was the start of my week long Spring Break! Click here to read about what I plan on doing this week! I started the break off with a brunch date at The Squirrel Cage which is located downtown Windsor. We had mimosas and Cesar's to start the day off and I wish I had a picture of my food but to tell you it was amazing would be an understatement! I ordered the eggs Charlotte which is a take on eggs Benedict but with salmon. I feel connected to this restaurant because it was actually the first place my boyfriend took me for our first date almost two years ago!

After our date we then headed to a cafe called March 21. This place has the best Nutella Latte and to say that I was tempted to purchase two for myself wouldn't be a lie. The weather was beautiful so we took a stroll downtown and hung out with some friends. I had a quick practice at work and after we were done I felt exactly how my sisters cat Figaro looks in the photo...

We ended off our Saturday night with a get together with some friends and a quick game of Cards Against Humanity.

Sunday morning we ended up sleeping in and taking our time to slowly get ready for the day. We set our hearts on eating at Toast for breakfast/brunch but the wait was too long so we ended up at this great little place called 220 Merrill. This restaurant was the perfect spot for some brunch with friends. They offered a Bloody Mary bar, had live music, bottomless mimosas and amazing eats!

After brunch we headed to see a movie, 10 Cloverfield Lane. The day was pretty crummy with all the rain so picking to go watch a movie was the perfect option for us!

This weekend was full of great memories and amazing food, specifically brunch foods!

What did you end up doing this weekend? I would love to know! I am always looking for new and fun things to do!

March Break Goals

March Break is the time if the year where I get a nice week to relax with no work and all the time to myself to recharge and stay motivated to move forward with all of my goals. I am very envious of everyone who is going away on an exotic trip for the week (who wouldn't love to be in a warmer climate?).

Even though I am not going anywhere exotic and warm I am going on a little trip for a few days with my boyfriend and a few friends (be ready for a vacation post). No matter how the weather ends up being for those days we have planned to go on a hike and spend our time outdoors. Which to be honest, I am so ready to disconnect myself from the online world for a day and spend my time with amazing people having amazing experiences.

My goals for this break are pretty simple;

  • I would like to stay with doing my #30DayPilatesBody March Challenge (I feel that I may lose a day here or there but I want to focus on attempting to do all of the days during my break!) I have yet to miss a challenge day! Its not to late to start if you want to join in on the challenge!
  • I would like to work on some DIY and pinterest hacks! I want to start my nightstand DIY as well as make another pinterest meal!
  • Since I will not be doing anything for work I want to stock my blog up with some new posts as well as give it some TLC. There are some things I have been meaning to fix or update and this would be the perfect time to do so!
  • Other than create great memories with friends and loved ones I want to try and capture them.. I was thinking about possibly not only taking photos of my experiences during the break but as well as a few videos. I would love to get my feet wet and jump into making some videos to post here on my blog!

I know these goals are pretty simple and easy to accomplish but we all know that when we get into relaxation mode even the easiest of tasks seems like pulling teeth!

If you have March Break next week I hope you have an amazing time doing things you love and creating memories with those you love!

Shoe Collection Edit

Recently I took it upon myself to attack my shoe collection and get rid of the pairs that I don't need in my life.

This was the first edit to my shoe collection and possibly the easiest edit to make.

Step One: Get rid of the broken, ugly & dingy shoes

This was pretty easy for me since I had a giant pile of shoes I just never choose to wear. With that said this pile formed.

I got rid of the shoes that I would simply not ever chose to wear again or look like I wore way to much! I want to edit down my shoe collection to only pairs that I would want to wear with all the outfits they would apply to.

The next step for me would be to edit out the shoes that do not really match anything I would wear or the shoes that are just plain uncomfortable! There are still a few pairs that I just should get rid of but I am putting them on a 3 month trial that if I don't find a time to wear them then they must go!

Who would like to see an updated shoe collection? Like this post (down below) so I know you want to see an updated collection!

My Skin Care Routine

I know I have been ranting and raving lately about how much I love the skincare products I use but I honestly have made a complete 180 in my routine and look to my skin.

Flash back to winter 2015 I was never washing my face at the end of the night, barely applying face moisturiser or eye creams & only applying skincare products during my shower ( face scrub was my homegirl).

Morning Routine

Rinse off my facemask; At night I usually apply an overnight facemask so when I wake up I get in the shower and rinse off the leftover mask sitting on my skin.

Cleanser; I use my First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser to wash my face, neck, shoulders and chest. I have pretty sensitive skin so this works a lot better than just regular body soap!

Facial Vitamins; After my shower I spray my First Aid Beauty Vitamin Mist on my skin to add back the moisture and give some TLC to my face!

Moisturiser; I then apply my First Aid Beauty Moisturiser to my face and neck in preparation for makeup.

Night Routine

Makeup Eraser; after brushing my teeth and getting my pj's on I like to remove my makeup using my Makeup Eraser.

Lip Scrub; with the winter months still upon us I like to scrub my lips everynight before bed. I use this lip scrub that was in a beauty bag. It does the trick and has a pleasant scent.

Facial Pads; I like to wipe down my face and neck with these First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads every night. I see a great improvement in my skin after using these and I love the results on my acne spots and scars.

Lip & Eye Creams; I like to apply some eye cream, lip treatment & skin firming mask to my face and neck. I feel like this is a bonus step that I don't really feel is necessary but it will help prevent fine lines and wrinkles in my future.

Overnight Mask; finally the last step to my routine is apply my overnight treatment (which I did a whole post about!). This First Aid Beauty Overnight Mask is heaven sent and I am addicted to applying it to my skin every night!

This seems like a lot to do for your skincare but I honestly feel that my skin looks a lot better since I have been taking care of it! It only take a few minutes before bed and it helps to relax and calm me down after a long day!

I would love to hear about your skincare routine and the products you are loving!

Weekend RoundUp: 03.05.16

Writing my weekend round up post is always bitter sweet! I love recapping what has happened during my days off and quality time with my friends and loved ones but it also reminds me of how fast it went and how much I am going to miss it!

This weekend was pretty laid back, we didn't have many plans (other than family dinners) and sort of just went with the flow and did what we decided to in the moment.

I decided to go minimal with my make-up on Saturday and skip the eyeliner..... WHAT! I am an addict to my thick black winged liner ( I even did a post on how I perfect my cateyes)! It was refreshing to change up my look for the day and it actually took quite a bit of time off my getting ready clock!

Saturday afternoon we went out to visit my parents at their new house that they are currently remodelling. We had an awesome time there just hanging out and looking at all the hard work and progress that has come along since the last time I visited!

I snapped a quick picture of the main staircase. I am in love with the look of the white classic stairs and the exposed wood of the walls!

We ended the night with some family dinner and getting together with friends to watch the fights. Sunday morning we had some fun decorating plastic Easter eggs and lounging around the house, with coffee of course!

We headed out for some lunch at a local sushi place. My OOTD consists of a denim top from Target, blush jeans from Material Girl Line  at The Bay, booties from Call it Spring & watch from Daniel Wellington.

I tried to add a bit of spring into the house and put out some new white tulips in my bathroom. I love the subtle change that it makes.. look forward to a decor post on Spring updates.

Now winding down from a great weekend makes me feel ready to start another amazing week doing all things that I love. I cannot wait to share my journey with everyone.

Time for some Davids Tea -Movie Night tea and get myself ready for the week.

I would love to hear about your  weekend! Post in the comments below!

February Favourites

Although February is the shortest month of the year (even with Leap Day) it still felt like a pretty solid month filled with a lot of memories and events. During February I found that I was more in love with aesthetically pleasing things than make up or skincare (even though there is a skincare favourite...of course!). I fell more in love with my blog, went out and did things that are new to me as well as realized how cherished my relationships are. Here are my favourites for the month;

Fresh Cut Flowers

I know Valentines day probably sparked this interest but I have always loved having fresh flowers (sometimes even fake flowers) around the house. My Tumblr feed has been filling up with fresh spring flowers and I could not be more obsessed!

A Rosie Bath

keeping with the theme I am totally loving the Lush bath items that are rose scented. I want to love the body conditioner more but I feel that the Rose Jam has it beat. The smell and lasting power of the body wash is amazing! I need more in my life!

Holy Grail Face Mask

Now if you read my recent post; CLICK HERE!  but I have fallen in love with the First Aid Beauty Overnight Mask  . I highly recommend it if you have dry patches and stubborn spots you want to get rid of. Every morning it looks like my face just drank a big gulp of water. I am addicted for sure!

My Daily Routine

I have been sticking to a pretty solid morning routine lately. I know it sounds silly to plan out my day but I find that I am more productive when I stick to my plan (plus I feel accomplished when I get a lot done). My morning routine always starts with making my bed and then having breakfast. After that it varies with what I have planned that day or need completed but I always have a large mug of coffee/tea by my side and a great podcast or youtube video to catch up on!

Blog Organization

As most bloggers I love to be organized with my thoughts and upcoming post ideas. Lately I have been using the template I created to keep myself organized from week to week and it is helping keeping everything in one place. Before using this system I would have a ton of sticky notes and loose papers everywhere that made it more complicated. I can now write all my ideas and things to do on one page and keep it organized.

I would love to hear what you have been loving this past month! Leave a comment down below!!

Spring Wardrobe Wishlist

It is about that time where I update my wardrobe and I bring in new colours and textures that are light and airy for Spring. Before I create this capsule wardrobe I wanted to put together some items that I have been seeing in stores and online that I would love to be a part of my capsule wardrobe: Spring Edition.

I have yet to create a capsule wardrobe in the spring or summer so with that in mind I honestly do not remember what I have packed away that needs to come out and be worn. I feel that I may be lacking in the staple pieces department and want to make sure I am covered that way. The items about are definitely staple items and would work in multiple seasons.

It is still very cold where I live so I do not see myself getting my spring capsule wardrobe together yet but when I do I will be posting about it (naturally).

What is on your wishlist for Spring time?

Pinterest Meal: Do they turn out as good as they look?

Pinterest is such an amazing place where you can find so many ideas for all different things in life. The amount of inspiration for my future wedding or home live on boards that I pinned. I have recently wondered do these Pinterest hacks actually turn out? I decided to take things into my own hands and create something I found on Pinterest!

I wanted to start with something a little simpler... nothing to hard like a whole DIY project (which I do plan to attempt in the near future). I found this dinner pin

This pin didn't look to hard and I figured I would make it for my boyfriend to have for dinner the next few nights!

My Attempt;

To be honest this meal turned out looking great! I didn't garnish it with anything but my boyfriend added some red pepper flakes and loved it!

I definitely recommend this recipe and want to hear if you have tried it out!

This has made me feel more confident in myself with Pinterest hacks and I am ready to tackle my first furniture DIY this month, stay tuned!

Lace It Up - Forever21 Haul

I recently did a quick Forever21  shop online looking for something to add some spring life to my closet.

Back in October I cleaned out my closet in hopes of having less clutter and more items I actually love. With that being said, I did get rid of a bunch of spring/summer clothing that have not been touch for over a year. I thought this would be a perfect time to add a few new items in my wardrobe that I will love.

Before opening the package I told myself that if I did not 100% love the items on me then I would not keep it and therefore return the clothing.

Here is a look at what I got;

Lace-Up Romper - Dusty Pink ($29.90)

This romper is beautiful, I love the colour of it and how the sleeves have some lace on them. I do not like how tight the bottoms are.  when I am just standing or walking they fit fine but they feel a little bit too snug compared to how I like my rompers fitting. I like how it looks but not how it feels... you feel me?

Lace-Up Fit & Flare Dress - Blush  ($37.90)

As you can tell this dress is very similar to the romper. I decided to get both items in hopes that I would fall in love with one more than the other and return the other one.

I do love the sleeves on the romper more but I think this dress is easier to wear. I like the fit of the top better on the dress than the romper.

Mesh-Paneled Bikini - White ($22.90 per piece)

I am obviously not going to try this on for the blog but I thought that a picture of it will be good enough. This white bikini is a perfect addition to my bikini collection. I did get rid of a few bikinis from last year and needs some new staple pieces that I would wear religiously.

The only issue I have with this item is how high cut the bottoms are. If you look at the photo you can tell the back isn't much bigger than the front. I do love this bikini but I am still on the fence if I would like to keep it or return it.

Sadly I am going to return the romper and possibly return the bathing suit as I am still on the fence about it. What do you think about these pieces? Do you love the lace-up and/or blush toned trends?

What I Wore 02.21.16

This weekend pretty laid back compared to the last. I had one event on Saturday night and the rest was filled with lounging around and drinking too much coffee! Here is a quick photo diary of what I wore this weekend.

Saturday Day

Saturday day I had a few errands to run and then went over to my cousins place for moral support while she got her wedding trial make-up done. I decided to wear something casual and since the weather was beautiful out I took total advantage of not wearing my jacket in my car (I even rolled my window half way down! haha).

Chambray top Target, Belt Forever21, Black skinny jeans American Eagle, Booties Call It Spring

Saturday Evening

I got to be a part of the Welcome Home to Windsor event held for the Syrian refugee families that are now a part of our community. It was truly an amazing event to be a part of, I am so glad to be in a community with such a big heart.

(Top Dynamite, Slacks H&M, Heels  Aldo , Trenchcoat Forever21)

This weekend made me feel a part of such an amazing community and proud to be a part of something bigger. Thank you to the World Water Operator Training Centre & the Syrian Canadian Council for putting on such a beautiful event.

What were you up to this weekend? I would love to hear about it :)

HomeSense Haul

Yesterday I took a quick trip to HomeSense to see all the new goodies they had in store for spring! Click here to read yesterdays spring trends post While at the store I could not resist picking up a few new goodies to brighten up my workspace.

Here are the items I brought home with me;

Quote clipboard

This beautiful clip board comes with twelve different quotes that you can change out monthly or whenever you want! I love the gold foiled letters and the dreamy font that they display. There are a few quotes I am not so fond of but I do not mind spending the money on something that is interchangeable verse one picture (which I saw in store and almost picked up!). I plan on putting this on the wall with some more decorative wall art.
Price $12.99

Peachy Roses

These adorable fake roses are the perfect accessory to your desk. They are small enough that they wont be taking up too much space but just the right amount of flowers to make a statement. Every girl loves getting flowers but having fake flowers will be an eternal bouquet. Price $12.99

Gold & White Printed Pencils

I walked by the stationary section (like I always do) and looked around for some new notepads. While on the hunt I spotted an adorable set of pencils in different patterns. The pack came with twelve pencils in multiple different patterns. I will definitely be using these daily! Price $5.99

Mint Green Notepad

This gigantic gold trimmed notepad is a perfect spot to write out my daily tasks and ideas. I am a sucker for stationary and when it comes in new pastel colours I just can't help myself! Price $5.99

I hope you enjoyed the few items I hauled from HomeSense and that you felt a bit of inspiration to add a few new little items to spring up your home.

Spring Decor Trends 2016

Spring is in the air (and if it's not then I am pretending it is)! I am so ready for the cold weather to melt away and bring the sun back out. I have never been one for winter time and the only reason I enjoy the colder months is because of the cozy indoor decor we can play with.

I took a trip today into Home Sense and Winners  to take a look at what trends were popping up for home decor! I am in love with the pantone colour trends that are out currently.

This post on instagram by HomeSenseCanada was what drew me in!

I am usually only drawn to white/black/grey/gold decor but something about this quartz colour gets me.

So off  I went to scope out what I could find in stores!

I bought a few things at Homesense which I will be posting a haul very soon! But the trends I saw today in the store were lovely!

Lots of pastels to brighten up a space, wood and metal tones to define and contrast against the furs and flowers that can bring dimension and comfort into a space.

I am loving the look of rustic wood mixed with pastel paint and ombre drawers. I am working on a DIY of a nightstand (which I should be done soon!) and if I can master that DIY I would love to do a project incorporating drawers that ombre!

What are you loving this spring for home decor and what is on your wishlist to buy?!

What I Wore: An Outfit Diary

This past weekend I was away on a work trip for three nights and three days. I always find that I pack too many items for the trip (which I still ended up doing this time, but it wasn't as excessive as past times).

Here is a quick look at what I packed for my dressier outfits;

Black Blazer (Forever21), White Peplum top (Dynamite), black & gold belt (Forever21), Olive Sweater (Urban Outfitters), black skinnies (American Eagle), Statement Necklace (Forever21), Clutch (Love Culture), Black Aviators (RayBans), Black boots & Brown boots (Call It Spring), Black bomber (Forever21), Black distressed skinnies (Forever21), Striped dress (Forever21), Watch (Daniel Wellington), White Blouse (Forever21), Beige Sweater (H&M)

The Packing Process

I find that if I try on the outfits that I am wanting to bring and look in the mirror it will help me decide if this is the best option to go with or will I find something better that I would rather bring to wear.

Once I am set on what outfits I am going to bring I always bring an extra sweater or dress incase I decide I want to wear something different that day You want to have the right amount of outfits but you also don't want to feel trapped in what you brought to wear.

Day One:

When we first got there we had some errands to run and a few things to do before we had to get ready for the night. I chose to wear my olive green sweater with my ripped skinnies and my converse shoes. This outfit was comfortable but also kept me warm in the cold weather.

For the night it was more of a casual evening so I went with a denim shirt, statement necklace, same ripped skinnies & brown booties.

Face of the Day:

I kept my makeup simple with just a winged liner and some red lips.

This hotel was horribly dry and not only did my skin pay the price but my hair also became full of static. I find that this is a common issue in most hotels that are older and I always have to add oil or double up on conditioner to keep my hair from freaking out. My skin was okay for the first two days but after that I felt very dry and dull.

Day Two:

This night was the dressier of the two. Even though these nights are dressy we still needed to be about to walk around and do things in our outfits. This is why I am loving the skinnies/booties/blouse combo, it is soo easy to just throw on and not have to worry about how short a skirt is or how my feet will hurt after a few hours in heels. This is definitely my go to outfit combination!

The Outfit:
I went with wearing my Black skinnies, black booties, white blouse and the same statement necklace from the night before.  (My necklace is from HRH Collection)

The more I packed for weekends away the more I find a certain style I feel comfortable in and what I enjoy wearing. Next weekend I have an event I am also going to so look forward to a new post next weekend about what I wore then!

Digital Vision Board: Canadian Vacation Edition

This past week I have been thinking a lot about travelling and going to different places around Canada. I compiled some photos that are of different spots in Ontario and other provinces that I would love to have the chance to go visit.

After researching and doing all the thinking about travelling in Canada it actually fell into my lap a trip soon! Be ready for a vacation post soon!

Sephora Haul

Last weekend I placed a quick order on Sephora to finally purchase some items that have been sitting in my shopping cart. Now here were a few items I had to leave behind and promise to get soon (when I have a reason to get more skincare and makeup).

I purchased the Makeup eraser and First Aid Beauty - Facial Radiance Overnight mask.  Both have been sitting in my basket for the last few months and after reading a review on how the makeup eraser has changed the way you take your makeup off I had to put it to the test!

The rest of the products shown in the above photo are samples I received on my online order; Clarins Shaping Face Lift (contouring serum)Radical Skincare (Age Defy Exfoliating Pads) and Needles No More (3-D Filler Mask).

First Impression: Makeup Eraser

This is the cutest packaging for a makeup remover! It looks like a giant eraser and I love when products come in a black option but I bet the original pink option would be extra cute with this packaging! Essentially this cloth replaces using cleansing oils and products made to remove makeup. This product not only claims to remove your makeup with just water but it also says it will last up to 1000 washes!

I am beyond excited to test out the Facial radiance overnight mask, I love all the First Aid Beauty products  I own and I bet this mask will be no different!

Interested in a review for theses products and samples? Comment below and let me know if you have tried these and how you feel about the products!

My Lipstick Collection

I'd like to say that when thinking about what my favourite makeup item is I would hands down respond with black eyeliner. If you were to take a look into my makeup collection you would probably change your answer and guess lipsticks by the amount I have.

Here is a quick run through of my lip product collection including some swatches,  reviews and my overall favourites!

Lipsticks

MAC Cosmetics
I have a good amount of Mac Lipsticks. I enjoy the smell of them and the fact that after returning 6 empty product containers gets you a free lipstick I am totally hooked.

Lipsticks in order of the swatches on my forearm (closest to my wrist first);

  • Creme cup
  • Faux
  • Viva Glam 1
  • Viva Glam 3
  • Media
  • Cyber

My personal favourites from this selection of lipsticks would have to be Faux and Media. They are the perfect two lipsticks to bring on a trip or a night out if you aren't sure if you want a dark or neutral lip.

Drugstore & Sephora Lipsticks

When swatching these lipsticks right after my MAC ones I found that these went on with a smoother swatch (keeping in mind that the majority of my MAC lipsticks are matte).

In order of swatches on my forearm (from closest to my wrist first);

  • Maybelline Hot Plum 900
  • Sephora Rouge  Ingenuous
  • Rimmel Kate #30
  • Rimmel Kate #104
  • Revlon Colorburst  Red velvet 040

Once these were swatched I decided that I will no longer be keeping the Revlon colorburst lipstick. It looks patchy and old compared to the rest (plus I barely use it!). I don't think I have used the Maybelline lipstick either but I will keep it and try to attempt to use it more!

Out of these lipsticks I am addicted to using the two Rimmel ones and my Sephora lipstick.

Lipliners

I only have 3 lipliners and I am totally okay with that.  List of liners from left to right (on hand swatch);

  • essence 07 Cute Pink
  • MAC Boldly Bare
  • NYX 01 Natural

I only ever use my MAC liner so definitely going to think about getting rid of the other two.

Lip Crayons

I enjoy using lip crayons just as much as sticks. The amount of pigment these give off is insane!

Swatched on wrist (in order from left to right);

  • ColorPop Bichette matte
  • Nars Velvet Matte Pencil Cruella
  • Clinique Black Honey
  • ColorPop Lumiere Matte
  • Nars Satin Lip Pencil Rikugien
  • ELF Matte Lip Color Natural

After applying the swatches I realized the Clinique Black Honey is more of a lipgloss than a pigmented crayon. I am ready to get rid of the ELF pencil as well as the Clinique.  My favourites would hands down be Colorpop Lumiere and Nars Cruella.

Glosses

I am not a huge lipgloss fan but these have a great amount of colour in them that not only can stand alone but has a great staying power.

In order from swatches on my wrist (left to right):

  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream SMLC10 Monte Carlo
  • MAC Pro Longwear Lipglass Driven By Love
  • MAC Lipglass Viva Glam 1
  • Revlon Ultra HD Matte LipColor  Seduction
  • not swatched Sexy Motherpucker lip plumper (clear)

Lip Balms

To finish off my collection I have 3 EOS lip balms and one Fresh Sugar spf lipbalm. I do not really enjoy using the EOS ones but I will use them up since I have them. I do not think I will repurchase them again. I like the Fresh one for the summer when I am out in the sun all day but the taste of it is not pleasant. I have a balm in my car that I use daily that is from Sephora  (featured in my November Favourites) Smiths Minted Rose.

Let me know what your favourite lip products are! I do love a good recommendation!
